The Dust Settles on the Gungriffon SHIRO! Community Challenge

Over this past month the SHIRO! community commanded state-of-the-art High Mobility Armored Combat Systems (HIGH-MACs) across the battlefields of Eurasia in GameArts’ Gungriffon.

By the end of July, 10 participants had shared an impressive 123 submissions. The overall score category — Eurasian Commandos — naturally became the focal point of the action as the month-long challenge progressed.

Samwise of the South (The SSG) held near-total control of first place in the overall score category throughout the challenge, with only a brief lapse following the mid-month refresh. This meant that the battle was for the podium’s silver position. Howyouben and Rasputin3000 traded places in the overall standings at numerous points, and their 34 and 27 submissions, respectively, over the course of the month demonstrate the intensity of this rivalry.

Once was all said and done, Samwise of the South finished in the top spot, with Rasputin3000 and howyouben taking the silver and bronze positions.

Samwise of the South led in the individual mission events, with the highest scores on stages 3,4, 6, 7, and 8. Howyouben claimed the top spots in stages 1 and 2. Rasputin3000 took Stage 5.

Shadowmask swept the Time Attack events. His 0:48.10 on the beginner’s exercise, posted on July 19 proved insurmountable — see this impressive run in the video above. Shadowmask’s expert exercise time of 1:18.35, which came in the waning hours of challenge, beat out the 1:24.25 submitted by Samwise of the South, securing his position atop the Time Attack leaderboards.  

“I definitely prefer the speedruns,” Shadowmask said.

All event winners will be receiving bespoke magnets as prizes, with Samwise of the South earning a one-off T-shirt for his accomplishments this month. All prizes were designed by SaturnDave and made by Xiden. Thank you to all that participated!
