A fusion of 2/3 visual novel and 1/3 strategy RPG, Devicereign from Starlight Marry Corp hit the Saturn in early 1999.
Three high school friends are suddenly accosted by a group of shadowy “men in black,” but the mysterious young girl Riko steps in to save them. She grants them Augments — a technology that enables them to harvest the supernatural — and off they go on a quest to solve the riddle of the men in black.
The game is text heavy, but the SRPG battles and the crisp, stylized visuals make the experience easier to digest. A very atmospheric release and definitely worth a try!
