SEGA AGES Phantasy Star Collection #BestOfSaturn

SEGA AGES was a single release in the West, but in Japan, it was an entire series of classics from SEGA’s past. Phantasy Star Collection, released in 1998, featured the hit Master System first game and the subsequent three MegaDrive / Genesis entries.

The games run just like their originals, as the actual ROMs are included on the Saturn disc. The collection also features extras much like in Sonic Jam — art, Japanese TV commercials, etc.

The original games are very highly regarded, so the collection made sense for Saturn. Alas, that language barrier…

Peter Malek

A Saturn fan since the beginning, Peter plays Saturn almost exclusively. For Peter, Saturn represents a moment in time where 2D games were at their best, 3D was just rising, and fascinating gaming 'firsts' were commonplace.  There are very few Saturn games that Peter cannot find some enjoyment in!

  1. I adore this collection! I’ve beaten every one of these titles on Saturn here in Japanese, with some help from gamefaqs guides and a little Google translate. I had actually never played them before this release. Fantastic disc (and packaging!).
