S4E4: Sakura Wars Translation Team Interview

SEGA Saturn, Shiro! Is back, and excited to present our latest podcast episode: S4E4, Sakura Wars Translation Team Interview. Join us as we chat with NoahSteam, TrekkiesUnite118, Bowl of Lentils, Crouching Mouse, and CJ Iwakura about the trials and tribulations of translating this tremendous title! Lots of discussion not only about the Sakura Wars translation, but other titles that the team members worked on as well, including the Grandia and Dragon Force 2. We talk about the team’s approach and philosophy, the roadblocks encountered, and the fascinating decisions made during the course of translation (Mon Frere, the Cannon, and more). We also delve into considerations when wanting to undertake your very own Saturn translation – why it isn’t as easy as swapping out text. Hosting the show is Patrick, joined by fellow Shiros Peter, Dave, and Nick. The cast covers a variety of subjects:

  • Our in-depth chat with the translation team, including a variety of insights and hints at future projects,
  • Fascinating technical bits such as how translating Quackshot (SEGA AGES – I Love Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck) involved simply making a register switch to call up an existing English script
  • Dream projects the team would LOVE to be involved in
  • Mini-updates on forthcoming translations of the Lunar games, Princess Crown, and others!
About the author

Peter Malek

A Saturn fan since the beginning, Peter plays Saturn almost exclusively. For Peter, Saturn represents a moment in time where 2D games were at their best, 3D was just rising, and fascinating gaming 'firsts' were commonplace.  There are very few Saturn games that Peter cannot find some enjoyment in!
