The website Hidden Palace recently posted downloadable rips of 80 Saturn prototypes and early builds.
This is “part 2” of the team’s Project Deluge, including a whopping 370 early builds of various Playstation games, and 20 prototypes for the Phillips CD-i… because why not. It’s history after all.
You will find builds at various states of completion, like a Magic Knight Rayearth English translation build from September 16th, 1997 — more than a year before its final North American release. Hardcore fans of the game will notice a lot of fun differences.
Some of the other early builds include Sega Rally Championship and Powerslave. I could go on listing what games are included, there’s 80 uploads linked above. The Sega Rally build is at “75%” completion, showing a slightly different looking main menu, no intro, and seemingly no Lancia Stratos.
We would like to thank Hidden Palace for their dedication to preserving gaming history. This is not just about being able to play the builds, it’s about making sure this data stays preserved. File redundancy is a great way to ensure this, since physical discs do not last forever.
