Back in 1995, amidst an explosion of new platforms, genres and 32/64-bit technologies, there came a video game review show that would lay the groundwork for future shows, such as X-Play & Attack of the Show! TWITCH (not to be confused with the modern streaming platform) was an edgy game news & review show for cable TV channel, INTRO Television, aimed at teens and young adults.
The show was loaded with that signature 90’s “attitude” and “MTV/grunge” visual aesthetic. Featuring quick cuts, extreme camera movements and “cool kids” reading goofy 90’s review copy off a teleprompter, it literally checks all the boxes for a hardcore 90’s videogame nostalgia trip… Monty Miranda would make his directorial debut with this show at just 26 years old, creating its overall style and vision, while teaming up with Brendan Horan for production. The show also featured local Denver Colorado band, Jux County, for its original 90’s alternative theme music.
Fast forward to April of 2021, and a YouTube account going by the name Zyrule started uploading episodes of the show from his own VHS tape archives every Sunday for folks to enjoy! SHIRO! was among those who were very excited about this content being preserved, and we followed Zyrule’s channel closely for each new episode. The show consisted of a total of 21 episodes, the last of which Zyrule uploaded on Oct 3, 2021. We cannot thank him enough for his efforts in both capturing and preserving this EPIC piece of video game history!
Our “Saturn Cut” video is a curation of ALL – SATURN & 32X – related content & reviews, INCLUDING multi-platform games reviewed on 3DO or PlayStation that also received nearly identical ports on Saturn.
