Everdrive store temporarily closes after Russia invades Ukraine

The products page for krikzz' online storefront is empty after announcing they will be temporarily closed because of the Ukrainian conflict. February 24th 2022.

UPDATE: A post on Twitter from Krikzz shows a picture of an air mattress and crib in their basement, saying “living in basment so far, shooting is heard from time to time, something in fire near to us. we are in hell.”

Krikzz Store, a Ukraine based business known for selling Everdrive cartridges for a variety of older video game consoles, is temporarily closing. An Everdrive game cartridge has an SD card slot which can be loaded up with ROMs and booted on real hardware. They are made for systems like the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Nintendo 64, and TurboGrafx-16. Krikzz is widely praised by the retro community for helping preserve video game history.

Russian President Vladamir Putin announced a “military operation” at 02:55 GMT in the Donbas region, which is on the eastern end of Ukraine. Reports of explosions being heard across Ukraine are pouring in from a wide variety of reputable news sources including Reuters and BBC. Tanks and troops from Russia are entering Ukraine through the east. This is a constantly evolving conflict, changing every hour. Because of this, we will not be reporting casualties or updates on where attacks are taking place, as such info will become dated very quickly. Please turn to reputable sources of world news for updates on the war. Many are referring to this as the biggest military attack in Europe since the 1940’s, and several world leaders are slamming Russia with economic sanctions.

An official announcement from Krikzz Store, known for selling Everdrive cartridges. They will be temporarily closed, citing the military conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

A tweet from @KrikzzStore was published Thursday evening (Ukraine time) within a day of Russian military moving into the country. A past tweet from Krikzz personal account replied to someone asking if they are okay, saying “I don’t think that everything can be ok when you waiting for military invasion every day.”

Krikzz told another person on Twitter, they do not live close to Donetsk and Lugansk, but in a place that is around 30 kilometers from the border. Several dozen others are urging Krikzz to stay safe.

Castlemania, which has served as an alternate storefront for Everdrive cartridges, is marking all of Krikkz’ products as “out of stock.”

There is no statement from Krikzz Store about how the Russian invasion may impact current orders — in the mail, or yet to be shipped. As of Thursday, flight tracking sites show empty air space over Ukraine and its border with Russia. Some shipping ports are also being shut down.

The download page for Everdrive firmware is still online.

We will continue to update you with any information on the safety of Krikzz and the other people behind the scenes of Everdrive products should such information become available.
