iFixRetro’s Fixed Up And Modded Super Prologue 21 Sega Saturn Ultra Console

Recently, iFixRetro came into possession a Super Prologue 21, a Karaoke Unit based on the SEGA Saturn hardware sold to bars and Karaoke venues specifically for, well playing Karaoke. They decided to team up with cyothevile, a famous console repair and modder in the community, to get this unit up and running to it’s full potential!:

One of the coolest features of this unit (Besides having a killer ability to play Karaoke), is the ability to also play retail SEGA Saturn games. Sadly due to the nature of the device iFixRetro had, the drive no matter how much repair work was done on the disc drive, the Prologue would not read discs. Due to this, they decided to fit the device with a Fenrir ODE instead of a traditional drive:

The other issue was with how the system itself functions. In order to boot, the Super Prologue requires an HDD to be present and contain the OS for the system. Without one present, not only will SEGA Saturn games not boot, but also the Karaoke portion will refuse to boot as well… Also with many of these units, it required an unlocked OS to fully function. Without it, you’d have to buy credits directly from SEGA to use the unit, which is an impossibility in this modern era.

Luckily, iFixRetro installed a SCSI2SD adapter, and flashed an unlocked OS to the drive. This allowed for not only a faster booting drive, but a quieter one as well:

Finally, they did a full recap on the unit, and finally had a fully functional, ultimate Super Prologue 21 unit for playing SEGA Saturn games, or just to bust out some Karaoke sets with friends!

If you’d like to try your hands at fixing your own Super Prologue 21 unit, you can check out the picture documentation iFixRetro also provided for this project:

Once again, we’d like to thank iFixRetro and cyothevile for not only fixing this unit, but getting it into the best configuration possible!
