News Roundup for the Week of Sept. 25

There haven’t been any big stories in the world of Sega Saturn this week, but there have been a few notable odds and ends, so here’s a roundup of them.

Shenmue the Animation is canceled

Jason DeMarco, producer of Shenmue the Animation, confirmed Tuesday that his show wouldn’t get a season two.

It’s yet another casualty of Discovery, which has axed lots of shows after buying Warner Bros. this year, much to fans’ chagrin.

The 13-episode anime adapted the first two Shemue games’ stories. It aired on Adult Swim and streamed on Crunchyroll in February through May this year. It’s already been pulled from Adult Swim’s website, leaving Crunchyroll as the last place to watch it.

Magical Drop 6 announced

Forever Entertainment debuted a trailer on Wednesday to announce Magical Drop 6, the latest entry in a series of puzzle games whose first three games appeared on the Sega Saturn in Japan.

It’s slated for release this winter on the Nintendo Switch.

Forever Entertainment also developed the remakes of Panzer Dragoon and The House of the Dead in recent years. The Magical Drop series originally was developed by Data East for arcades.

The most recent entry in the series, Magical Drop V, launched on Steam in 2012 but was very poorly received. It was delisted in 2020.

Bluetooth adapter creator gets PCB in hand

Izzy Patrick, aka GamingNJncos, tweeted on Monday that he’s received a PCB for the basic version of his Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the top of a Saturn 3D analog controller.

It sports a striking image of Segata Sanshiro on it.

He said several weeks ago that he hopes to coax someone to make retail units. Anyone who wants to take a peek at the specs can do so here.

Izzy has been working on the adapter for about a year. Shiro last wrote an update in June about his project along with the one he was inspired by, a similar adapter from Drew Kenaz.
