Things sure do move FAST in the Saturn scene… It was just a couple days ago (May 2, 2023) that Team SHIRO!s Knight0fDragon began work on an English Translation Patch for Shadows of the Tusk, and here we are on (May 5, 2023) with all options menus and battle dialogs fully translated.
Translation Progress
Coming on the heels of Joe SegaRPGFan‘s ‘NetBand Tunnel‘, which has resurrected Saturn’s Online NetPlay for several games, the community has been buzzing about Shadows of the Tusk, and below you can see a stream with SHIRO!s SaturnDave & TraynoCo demonstrating the the online NetPlay via the Tunnel. However, some aspects of the gameplay have been difficult to discern due to the language barrier…

So what was the inspiration for this very sudden translation project, you ask?
“…so we can play the game correctly without bothering Dan (RetroSpectors)” -Knight0fDragon
[Dan has spent numerous hours playing the untranslated version of the game and has been a fount of information up to this point, even posting a detailed video walkthrough/strategy guide shown down below]

For those that wish to hop on the ‘fast track’ and join in the fun of these NetPlay shenanigans with ALL CHARACTERS UNLOCKED, Knight has provided this nifty save file… DOWNLOAD
At present, Knight has stated that he has no immediate plans to translated the remaining Story Mode text (as his goal was merely to make the online multiplayer mode playable), but if someone else is interested in translating the story campaign, they are more than welcome to reach out to us on the SHIRO! Discord server.
In the meantime, stay tuned for more information regarding the release of this translation patch.
I really hope this comes out sometime soon! I’ve been wanting to play this game ever since I read about it years ago, and I’ve been real excited for this patch since I read about it the other month~
from what I can see it looks like your typical isometric srategy much akin to ff: tactics, tactics ogre and wachenroder etc.
I suppose the selling point IS the netplay.
I really do hope that emulation/netplay becomes more popular. I understand people enjoy the physical hardware, but I cannot be bothered to go through all that hassle/time/money.
