Released mid-1998, Wachenröder is a Japan-only steampunk SRPG. Dark and gritty, the game features quality FMV sequences, very nice still pixel art, and standard 2D SRPG battles that switch to fully 3D when one character strikes another. The gimmick here is that weapons are steam-powered, take time to charge up, and can overheat – adding a resource management element to the game. An English translation is in the works…
