Amiga’s Castlevania Tribute, ‘Maria Renard’s Revenge’ Hits Saturn

Just yesterday, January 18th, 2024, Amiga developer Z-Team submitted their entry to this year’s Saturn Game Competition hosted by SegaXtreme and organized by Dr. Emerald Nova.

Z-Team has created a Saturn port of their own port, Maria Renard’s Revenge, originally developed by Domkid using the Scorpion Engine for the Commodore Amiga CD32. In this tribute to 2D Castlevania games, you play as (you guessed it), Maria Rendard, a young vampire huntress and distant relative of the Belmont Clan.

Here Maria must traverse through dangerous landscapes and fight many monsters through 4 levels, while defending herself with the use of a bird that protects her from harm…

This Sega Saturn version port includes all graphics, maps and level design by Domkid and was built by Scigor using Johannes Fetz’s Jo Sega Saturn Engine (aka ‘Jo Engine’).

The port is playable both on real Sega Saturn hardware and Emulators. It’s still very much a work in progress, and many aspects of the game are currently somewhat broken, however, it’s still a great example of progress made up to this point.
