Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari #BestOfSaturn

Enix published the graphic adventure Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari / Tale of the Island of the Seven Winds exclusively on Japanese Saturns in late 1997. With gorgeous hand-drawn visuals, the game sees the dragon Gaupu seeking to harness the titular seven winds to unravel a mystery from the past.

Names, and remembering them, is key to this unusual game. Hints and help are dispensed along the way in the form of poems and cryptic messages (think Dreamcast Ecco’s glyphs); alas, they are entirely in Japanese.

This is a combat-free puzzle adventure game, akin in a way to the King’s Quest titles. A great example of a dimension of Saturn gaming that never made it out of Japan.

A Saturn fan since the beginning, Peter plays Saturn almost exclusively. For Peter, Saturn represents a moment in time where 2D games were at their best, 3D was just rising, and fascinating gaming 'firsts' were commonplace.  There are very few Saturn games that Peter cannot find some enjoyment in!
