Guess who’s back, back again … that’s right, the Dreamcast community’s very own Slim Shady is back yet again with another project.
Jnmartin84, the man behind the ports of Doom 64 and WipEout on Dreamcast is now porting the one and only Mario Kart 64 to the console.

Near the end of last month, I got wind that jnmartin was planning to move on from WipEout to a brand new project, a Nintendo 64 title that Falco Girgis told me was “something big”. And that something big …. was Mario Kart 64.
And so far, it’s running great! In terms of content the game can be played from start to finish with all characters selectable.
The visuals are true to the Nintendo 64 version, and by that I mean the renowned blurry textures on Mario, his fellow racers, and elements of the track scenery.
There are some minor visual elements that have glitches, predominantly in the menus, but the game itself is running brilliantly.

Multiplayer is also fully intact, with up to 4 players supported. I can’t show this in action on my own console, as I’ve only got one controller to hand … the rest are packed away in the attic … but rest assured, four-player Mario Kart madness is working well on Dreamcast.
I reached out to jnmartin to get some background on the port because we don’t just want to show you these ports, we enjoy telling you HOW these ports were done.
