Limited Run Games announced plans Wednesday to publish Prize Fighter Heavyweight Edition on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 next year.
Prize Fighter is a full-motion video boxing game originally published by Digital Pictures for the Sega CD in 1993. Interestingly, “Heavyweight Edition” is the subtitle given to the Saturn port that was canceled before its planned 1996 release.
That Saturn port was supposed to have better video quality than the Sega CD original, following a similar pattern to other Digital Pictures games ported to Saturn in 1995 like Corpse Killer and Double Switch.
During its “LRG3” presentation Wednesday, Limited Run showed very crisp-looking video quality for Prize Fighter at the 32:20 mark:
The company then posted on X about the announcement, saying, “Put up your dukes. Prize Fighter Heavyweight Edition wants to get physical.”

It’s unknown whether the “Heavyweight Edition” in the title indicates that this modern release will mirror what the Saturn port would have included or if it’s simply being used for flavor.
Three years ago, footage of a fully working build of Prize Fighter Heavyweight Edition for the Saturn surfaced on YouTube, as SHIRO! covered at the time. The uploader, Todd McHenry, said that he was not at liberty to make the build available for download. But such a build existing at all may have led to Limited Run’s announcement this week.
Earlier in the presentation, LRG announced another former Digital Pictures game, Slam City with Scottie Pippin, would come to modern platforms in 2026. That game also originated on the Sega CD but was never set for a Saturn port.
In recent years, LRG has ported other Digital Pictures games to modern platforms such as Night Trap, Double Switch and Ground Zero: Texas.
