It has been a year since SHIRO! last covered Paul Met and Meduza Team’s development of codes to unlock the framerate in select Sega Saturn titles, and they have been hard at work in that time. Since we last reported, nearly two dozen games have received unlock codes (list below) bringing the total number of Saturn titles with these patches to 47.
Meduza Team’s FPS unlock codes can be found here. These codes can be patched into their respective game files and are designed to work on real hardware (your mileage may vary) or via emulation.
Text that accompanies the demonstration video reads, “A short demonstration of cheat codes that remove the frame rate limit in Sega Saturn games, allowing you to play at 60 fps. Unfortunately, the frame rate is unstable — CPU overclocking via an emulator is absolutely necessary.”
Titles shown in the above “FPS unlock codes for Sega Saturn (part 3)” video (in order of appearance):
The presence of Sega Rally Championship is notable, as this title had been previously called out by Paul Met as “fighting back” against attempts to having its FPS unlocked. Sega Rally fans should be aware that, while Meduza Team appears to have cracked the code — pun intended — this FPS unlock comes with some concessions, namely buggy/inconsistent performance.
Also of note is all of Lobotomy Software‘s fan-favorite first-person shooters (Duke Nukem 3D, Powerslave, and Quake) built with the SlaveDriver Engine are included, this did not go unnoticed by the community. The SlaveDriver Engine was released publicly last August — SHIRO! coverage here and relevant GitHub link here.

Other games with new FPS unlock codes not shown in the any of the demo videos:
- Amok
- Death Crimson
- G Vector
- J. League Jikkyou Honoo no Striker
- K-1 Fighting Illusion Shou
- Manx TT Super Bike
- Ninpen Manmaru
- Panzer Dragoon
- Ronde
- Shutokou Battle ’97
- Sky Target
- Solo Crisis
- Sorvice
- Steep Slope Sliders
- Tomb Raider
- Virtual Hydlide
Saturn fans and speedrunning afficionados should note that the Virtual Hydlide codes are specifically for the North American version and only bring slight improvements to playability in less busy gameplay scenarios — see below.

so this works on a real saturn ? on a saroo or on a satiator ???
someone tried it on virtual hydlide ?
Yes, those codes work on the console, with whatever allows you to run a CD image.
But the codes that I tried, for Wipeout and Virtual Hydlide, were of little interest : those games don’t often go over their original framerate cap, which is 20 fps for Wipeout and 10 (not a typo) fps for Virtual Hydlide. And when they do, the gameplay is sped up beyond its intended speed which is not a good thing, especially for a fast racing game like Wipeout.
