Sakura Wars 2 #BestOfSaturn

Following the mega-success of the first game, SEGA and Red Company unleashed Sakura Wars 2: Thou Shalt Not Die on Japanese Saturn players in April 1998.

Set two years after the original, you reprise the role of Imperial Navy Ensign Ichiro Ogami, once again taking command of the Flower Division. This time, the Black Demons threaten Japan, and it’s up to the all-female fighters to take control of their mechs — called Koubus — and keep the streets of Tokyo safe. Headquartered at the Imperial Theater, the girls work as actresses in a troupe to keep their real identities hidden.

The sequel features the same formula of part dating sim / visual novel with time-sensitive dialogue branching points, and part mech strategy game. Doing well interacting with the members of the Flower Division impacts their respect for you and even their levels of motivation on the battlefield. The game proved so popular it was eventually ported to Dreamcast, with two more sequels materializing on Dreamcast as well.

Alas, Sakura Wars 2 was locked away behind a heavy language barrier, until NoahSteam and his troupe activated their English Kobu Kai’s and translated the title for your gaming pleasure! The translation was released in April 2025 and can be downloaded from SegaXtreme.com.
