Saturn Bomberman Fight! #BestOfSaturn

After the 1996 release of the mega-successful Saturn Bomberman, Hudson Soft crafted a sequel: 1997’s Saturn Bomberman Fight! For the first time in the series, the 2D levels are replaced by 3D, isometric square playfields.

The game’s 14 characters now sport life bars instead of being one hit wonders, can jump, and even throw bombs without any power-ups. The game features a story mode, battle mode, and a time attack-style survival mode. Battle mode is the expected slug-fest — in this case for up to 4 players — for which the series is known, but it’s the story mode that benefits most from the game’s English patch.

In story mode, one or two players enter the Bomber Tournament, vying for the title of the true Bomber fighter, and to be granted a wish by the goddess of aspiration. The story is super cutesy, and each character has his or her own adventure to work through… including Shiro, the cool-as-a-cucumber bomber (no relation to SHIRO! Media Group).

Try out the game’s 10 stages plus three more bonus levels of destructive fun, and enjoy getting to know the characters in English! The patch was released at Christmas in 2024, courtesy of Ultimate Bomber Malenko and his team of pyromaniacs.
