Asuka 120 Burning Fest. Limited #BestOfSaturn

Today we present one of the most fascinating fan translation stories on the Saturn as a whole: Asuka 120 Burning Fest. (festival) Limited, was a late 1997 Japan-only title by Fill In Café. The game is set in an all-girl school featuring various school clubs vying for higher budgets, settled (naturally) by a fighting tournament. Chemistry Club prodigy Asuka Honda is one of 11 fighters vying for the top spot, and the player follows her (or any of the other fighters’) story as she makes her way through the tournament.

Shortly after releasing the game, Fill In Café filed for bankruptcy. Then, sometime between late 1998 and early 1999, members of the then-defunct software house released an unofficial “update patch” for the game, subtitling it “Limit Over.” The update made major changes — the emphasis shifted strictly to the fighting and the Story Mode was ditched entirely, each girl received new moves, the ability to dodge, grab, and recover, and every character was completely rebalanced, based on feedback from players.

Still, some Japanese remained that made it difficult to grapple with the game, so in 2015, Ms. Tea released an English patch to the delight of all the clubs at the school and, indeed, all Saturn fans. Give this fighter a try!
