Daytona USA Rolling In for 10th SHIRO! Online Tournament

Signups are now live for the Daytona USA SEGA Saturn SHIRO! Online NetLink/Xband Tournament at the #online_tournaments chat on the SHIRO! Discord. We will continue doing three separate eight-player brackets with US West, US East and Europe. Each bracket winner will receive a special hat prize, but will face off against each other in the finals for bragging rights to see who can fly the worldwide sky highest.

Any car is allowed. Participants are asked to race at least the three main arcade tracks in their matches, but are encouraged to do all five if both sides agree. We will be using the Japanese Daytona USA: Circuit Edition For Sega Networks, since it runs faster, but if the connection speed is slow, you are allowed to try switching to the American Daytona USA C.C.E NetLink Edition as it seems to work better for longer distances.

The online versions of Daytona USA use the same engine as Sega Rally Championship, and they feature better graphics and a higher frame rate than the original Saturn release. However, because the original’s controls feel closer to the arcade, many fans still prefer it over the remake.

Just like for online Rally, it is recommend that participants use the 3D Control Pad, as it makes adjusting to the online lag a bit easier to deal with. You can also boot the unpatched retail game to adjust settings that carry over for online play. This includes the handling, key configuration as well as the music that plays for each stage.

Quick Handling seems to help with online play. Key Config “Type C” is a great setting, as it maps each of the four gears to their own buttons. The arcade original music is obviously recommended for the first three stages over the default songs.

The tournament will start its engines when all seats are filled, so hurry and sign up for your chance to show the world what real racing looks like.

Let’s go away!
