Who doesn’t love Cotton, the cutest teenage witch this side of the Pumpkin Kingdom? When Princess Appli steals — then loses — the powerful Water Willow candy, Cotton must embark on a 2D side-scrolling shmup quest to try and defeat the forces of darkness that threaten to take over the land.
A cute-em-up with killer visuals and tight gameplay, Cotton can shoot, grab enemies, trap baddies, and unleash magical supers across seven magical levels. Collect Fire, Ice, or Earth crystals to charge up your shots, and perform fighting-game-style moves on your controller for some wild combos against the oncoming hordes of bad guys. Both an Arcade and an arranged Saturn mode featuring remixed graphics are available, and using either the 1MB or 4MB cartridge enables additional sound effects and voice samples for a very arcade-perfect experience.
Developed by Success, Magical Night Dreams Cotton 2 first appeared in arcades on the ST-V Titan board before receiving a swift Saturn port in 1997. Most of the menus were already in English, but the game’s story required the skills of Nanash1 who, with the community’s support, translated it in 2021 before enjoying some well-deserved tea. Grab your broom, take to the skies, and blast your way through everything as you search for the willow candy!
