Shadowmask converts PandaMonium video to Cinepak

Shadowmask took it upon himself over the weekend to convert PandaMonium’s latest video to a format that can be watched on a real Sega Saturn — with Panda’s blessing, of course.

Shadowmask converted PandaMonium’s SegaXtreme Showcase video to Cinepak and uploaded it Monday to SegaXtreme. It’s a self-booting video made using TrekkiesUnite’s Cinepak Movie Disc utility. It runs fullscreen at 320 by 240 with 22khz 16bit audio.

There are two versions, actually — one for optical drive emulators and another for emulators and the MiSTer FPGA.

“Two versions are provided due to compatibility issues experienced during testing,” Shadowmask said on the videos’ SegaXtreme Resources page. “The only difference is that the .cue files have been removed from the ODE version.”

He doesn’t recommend burning a disc because the image exceeds 700MB, the size of a CD.

He also pointed out that the video won’t run on a stock Fenrir ODE, so it’s recommended that Fenrir users install Fenrir Loader Kai and boot the video from that.

Shadowmask converted PandaMonium’s SegaXtreme videos in 2024 and 2025 to Cinepak as well as some of the videos in Panda’s Saturn review series, including Digging for Isix, High Velocity and Sega Rally.

Ateam updates Orbital Organizer to version 2.1.3

Derek “Ateam” Pascarella on Monday updated his SD card management tool for the Rhea and Phoebe, the original Saturn ODEs.

Orbital Organizer is now up to version 2.1.3 and can be downloaded from Ateam’s GitHub page for the project. Not only does the latest update fix a text bug for MacOS and Linux users when booting up CHD-format games but it also improves handling of compressed disc images — like CHD as well as RAR and 7Zip — and enhances the utility’s search functionality.

Among other improvements to handling compressed images, adding a compressed archive no longer extracts it, according to the GitHub.

“Metadata is read from inside the archive with small bounded reads (~1 MB), so adds are near-instant instead of a full decompress-and-delete,” Ateam says on GitHub. “Each archive is now extracted exactly once, at save, instead of twice.”

The SharpCompress library has been updated to version 0.40 to support a wider range of archive formats, too. In previous versions of Orbital Organizer, some 7Zip archives failed to read.

Orbital Organizer version 2.1.3’s search functionality.

Meanwhile, when searching for a particular game, entering a string into the Search/Filter box had caused the selector row cursor to jump to each matching row in old versions of Orbital Organizer. Now, rows with matching substrings are highlighted in a light yellow, while the matched substring itself is highlighted in bright yellow, according to GitHub.

Clicking the search button, or pressing Enter, still causes the cursor to jump to the next row.

SHIRO! last wrote about Orbital Organizer in April when version 2.0.0 came out. Ateam has updated it nine times since then, fixing a variety of bugs and improving functionality.

Pascarella first released the Orbital Organizer in May 2025 to let users add, remove and modify disc images without keeping track of numbered folders or needing to use the RMENU rebuild process.

SuperGroupie takes preorders on Sega hardware-styled watches

Sega announced a collaboration Monday with Japanese fashion brand SuperGroupies to sell wristwatches styled after three of Sega’s consoles: the Saturn, the Dreamcast and the Mega Drive.

SuperGroupies is taking preorders on the quartz watches, which cost US$319, until Aug. 30. They’re expected to ship in April next year.

The product page describes the Saturn version of the watch thusly:

  • Color scheme reflects the futuristic look of the Japanese version SEGA Saturn
  • Dial boldly incorporates console details for a retro finish: its logo at 12 o’clock, reset & power buttons at 3 & 9 o’clock, open button in the center, controller buttons on the lower half, and more!
  • Case back is etched with the SEGA Saturn logo
  • Metal strap adds sophistication to make this watch suitable even in professional settings
  • Comes in a box with a sleeve reflecting the console’s Japanese packaging
  • Relive the amazing hits played on the SEGA Saturn with this refined watch; Head for Saturn!

Started in 2014, SuperGroupies focuses on officially licensed collaboration merchandise inspired by anime, games, VTubers, and more. It’s based in Japan but has a U.S. store for buyers in North America.

These console watches are far from SuperGroupies’ first collaboration with Sega — they’ve also sold product lines for Bayonetta, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Persona, Raidou, Shin Megami Tensei, Sonic the Hedgehog and Yakuza.
