Disney-based games were always a hit on the Mega Drive / Genesis, and the SEGA AGES entry I Love Mickey Mouse / I Love Donald Duck features both Castle of Illusion and Quackshot on one disc. This was the very last SEGA AGES title released on Saturn, appearing in Japan in October 1998.
Both games are colorful 2D side-scrollers from early in the Genesis’ lifecycle. In Castle of Illusion (1990), Mickey must rescue Minnie from the evil Mizrabel, who has imprisoned Minnie to steal her youth and beauty. In Quackshot (1991), Donald, along with Huey, Dewey, and Louie, must track down the hidden treasure of King Garuzia in an adventure that’s as much an homage to Indiana Jones as can be had. Both titles were very well received upon release and are faithfully reproduced on Saturn and remain very enjoyable to this day, though the text is in Japanese.
In early 2020, TrekkiesUnite118 also went looking for treasure, youth, and beauty, but instead found a way to patch in the official English Genesis / Mega Drive translations into the Saturn title. He even swapped out certain assets — such as changing the Japanese Mega Drive box art to the American Genesis ones — for a complete, localized experience. Hooray!
