Tamagotchi Park Now Open to the English Public

Hacker Patchyfluffy has released an English patch for the pet simulator Sega Saturn de Hakken!! Tamagotchi Park, an exclusive to the Saturn. As the name suggests, you run a park full of Tamagotchi creatures that need your parental supervision, including toilet duties.

Patchyfluffy used an AI agent called Opus to translate the game from its original Japanese.

Developed by Ancient and published by Bandai in January 1998, Tamagotchi Park was only released in Japan. It features 50 different types of Tamagotchi, including a handful of special SEGA mascot cameos, including “Sonictchi” and “Pengotchi.” You can check them all out here, including evolution requirements.

The game came boxed with a proprietary pink memory cartridge with a special save file that is required to save your data. You cannot save to the cart without this save already on there. A blank save, included on Patchyfluffy‘s GitHub, is also one of the included saves on the Save Game Copier, which, when booted on real hardware, allows you to load it on to any normal memory cart. Privateye has also shared a way to bypass the special save requirement all together, and brought it up to Patchyfluffy for a future update.

Patchyfluffy said, “This was done with Opus 5.5, but has been manually edited and played through to see all possible main screens in the game and to ensure that everything flows well. I’ve playtested the game to the point of unlocking everything and sanity tested it, but I can’t guarantee it’s perfect, so please comment on the GitHub or YouTube if you find faults! Translation is hindered a little by character limits, so the names of some Tamagotchi are not displayed in full. Translation tools are included if anyone would like to improve upon what’s here.”

Patchyfluffy continued: “My general philosophy is that vibecoded stuff should be for personal use only, but I’m really not sure if a human translation of this will come up, and the text is simple enough to probably not contain heavy nuances that the machine is missing. If any actual Japanese speakers want to translate this instead, or offer improvements, please do! I’ve wanted this in English for a long while.”

Patchyfluffy is also working on a machine translation of PlayStation’s Hoshi de Hakken!! Tamagotchi, but said, “It’s a little more complex than the Saturn game so it might take longer.” So for now, enjoy the Tamagotchi, The Park And Other Saturn Things.
