Last fall on the SHIRO! Discord, we came up with a list of all the 2D and 2.5D platformers on the Saturn, so I thought it would be good to post it for posterity here on the forums.
This list includes hack-n-slashes, run-n-guns, games with light RPG elements … if you jump on platforms on a two-dimensional plane, it’s on this list.
Clockwork Knight 1 and 2
Astal
Super Tempo
Gex
Sonic Jam
Mr. Bones (in parts)
Tryrush Deppy
Pandamonium
Rayman
Sega Ages Mickey Mouse/Donald Duck
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Doraemon: Nobita to Fukkatsu no Hoshi
Earthworm Jim 2
Mega Man X3, X4 and 8
Shinobi Legions
Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Trash It
Johnny Bazookatone
Scud the Disposable Assassin
Skeleton Warriors
Hissatsu!
Keio Flying Squadron 2
Silhouette Mirage
Metal Slug
Capcom Generation: Dai 2 Shuu Makai to Kishi (Ghosts’n Goblins, Ghouls’n Ghosts, Super Ghouls’n Ghosts)
Wonder 3 Arcade Gears (Roosters: Chariot o Sagashite, Chariot: Tenkuu e no Tabi)debatable: Bug and Bug Too
That’s 30 games, or 32 if you count Bug and Bug Too, or 29.5 if you only count Mr. Bones as half a platformer 😅
What do you think of the list? Did we miss any? Should Bug and Bug Too definitely count? Which ones are your favorites?
2026-07-26 at 21:01 #59455I would also add Metal Slug as a run and gun. Or even Capcom Generation 2 with the Ghosts N Goblins games since its a compilation similar to the Disney Sega Ages game or Sonic Jam

That’s a good point! I can add those.
Are there any other platformers hiding on compilations?
2026-07-27 at 06:27 #59462So I’m looking at other compilations on the Saturn, and I think Wonder 3 Arcade Gears qualifies for this list, too. It has ports from arcade run-n-guns Roosters: Chariot o Sagashite and Chariot: Tenkuu e no Tabi. They’re like a cross between Metal Slug and Ghosts n’ Goblins:
They look pretty cool, too.
(Wonder 3 Arcade Gears also has Donpuru, which is a puzzle game.)
