There are a total of 81 fighting games on the Saturn.

A few caveats:
– I counted the NetLink and SegaNet versions of Virtual On and the SegaNet version of Virtua Fighter Remix as separate releases from their original non-online versions.
– I counted boxing and wrestling games.
– I counted Keriotosse!, a Power Stone-like arena fighter.
– I counted Street Fighter Collection and Capcom Generation 5 as single releases, even though they have multiple fighting games in them.
– I did not count re-release compilations like the ones SNK did for Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters. I didn’t count Satakore budget re-releases as separate releases, either.

Fun fact: Of the 81 total fighting games (counting wrestling and boxing ones, too) made for the Saturn, 79 of them came out in Japan. The only outliers were Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy — North American and European exclusives.

Another fun fact: Only six of North America’s 32 fighting games released in 1995 and six of them released in 1997 — and none in 1998, of course. The other 20 titles, 62.5% of the North American fighting game library, came out in 1996.

More fun facts: Europe got five fighting games in 1995, 18 games in 1996, six games in 1997 and two games in 1998 for a total of 31 fighting games. So 58% of their fighting games were in 1996. Two games released in Europe but not North America: The King of Fighters ’95 and Dragon Ball Z Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu. The games North America got but Europe didn’t include Dark Legend, Criticom and Cyber Troopers Virtual-On NetLink Edition.
