Project Spotlight: Sakura Wars: Columns 2 for Dreamcast

SHIRO! SHOW Recap

As a massive Sakura Wars fan, I was always given the shot end of the stick. With only two officially released game in the west out of the several stuck in Japan, I’m always hard pressed to play some of these games without a guide.

Lucky for me, people like Derek Pascarella (AKA Ateam), and several others have been hard at work on new fan translations, such as the famous Sakura Wars 1 fan translation on Saturn.

Best girls, pitted against each other in Column Combat!

Derek, who has worked on Dreamcast translation projects in the past such as Neon Genesis Evangelion – Typing Project E and Taxi 2 – The Game, decided to work on a spin off in the Sakura Wars series, Sakura Wars: Columns 2 (Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2) on the Dreamcast!

In Sakura Wars: Columns 2, there is no winners or losers, just winners.

The project, which is a full translation of all in game text, is currently in it’s alpha phase, but is close to release!

This game has been a massive undertaking, with Derek telling me that besides the Press Start Button text, none of the game was in any form of English.

It’s amazing, the game went from this.
….To this!

Keep an eye out for Sakura Wars: Columns 2 (Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2), coming soon to a Dreamcast near you!
