Bulk Slash #BestOfSaturn

Hudson Soft’s Bulk Slash arrived on Saturn mid-1997, and immediately turned heads with sensational audiovisuals taking full advantage of the Saturn’s unique architecture.

A mech action game played from a third-person perspective, gamers guide mech pilot Chris Dooley in completing various missions in visually stunning fully 3D environments. The defeated forces of planet Blau have reformed and are threatening society with annihilation, and it’s up to you to stop them. Chris’ walking mech can transform itself into a flying machine of destruction at will, truly giving players full freedom to go anywhere, and lay waste!

Hidden in each stage are female navigators part of the government’s Manageable Intelligent Support System (MISS). Find and recruit them to take advantage of the extra skills they afford you. Do well against the forces of Blau, and your MISS just might take an interest in you, and no, having more than one MISS to enjoy is not a bad thing!!

Bulk Slash was already on many lists of top Saturn games, but in 2021, Lacquerware and his extensive team released a monster English patch that not only translated the game, but featured dubbed voices for each major character, and even introduced support for the Twin Stick controller! Absolutely AWESOME.

Peter Malek

A Saturn fan since the beginning, Peter plays Saturn almost exclusively. For Peter, Saturn represents a moment in time where 2D games were at their best, 3D was just rising, and fascinating gaming 'firsts' were commonplace.  There are very few Saturn games that Peter cannot find some enjoyment in!
