Waialae no Kiseki: Extra 36 Holes — the Walrus-less spiritual successor to Pebble Beach Golf Links — is now playable in English thanks to a recent “English Toggle Patch” by the SegaXtreme user Suinevere Pendragon.

You can download the Waialae no Kiseki: Extra 36 Holes English Toggle Patch here.
The readme included with the “English Toggle Patch” states that with the patch applied “menus and help text render in English once the toggle is enabled. FMV and audio assets are retained [in their original Japanese].”

Patching Waialae no Kiseki: Extra 36 Holes
Suinevere Pendragon was rather inclusive in their construction of this patch as it can be applied using xdelta, Lunar IPS or Sega Saturn Patcher. The Redump compatible version of the title — Waialae no Kiseki: Extra 36 Holes (Japan) — should be used when applying the patch.
The readme file bundled with the English Toggle Patch includes instructions for each of the three methods:
Method 1: Sega Saturn Patcher (SSP)
- Open Sega Saturn Patcher.
- Select the image.
- Click “+ Game Patch (SSP)”.
- Select “waialae-english.ssp”.
- Click “Patch Image”.
Method 2: Xdelta
- Use xdeltaUI or Delta Patcher.
- Select the source image.
- Select “waialae-english.xdelta”.
- Apply patch.
Method 3: IPS
- Use Lunar IPS or MultiPatch.
- Select “Apply IPS Patch” and choose “waialae-english.ips”.
- Select the image.
An accidental find
As stated by Suinevere Pendragon when they initially shared the news, and detailed further on SegaXtreme’s forums, this English activation patch is functionally a 1-byte switch (0x48 to 0x54) in the boot dispatcher file named A.BIN that “enables a latent English mode already present on the disc.”
SHIRO! pressed for more details in the aforementioned forum thread:
“I had no idea this had an English translation hiding in it! Thanks for making a patch and a thread about it. How did you find this?” — SHIRO!
“Just got lucky while poking around. I’ve been lurking for a while and wanted to try a first-time translation to get a hang of the workflow. Noticed the “E” binaries on the disc and tried forcing the jump in the bootloader. Simpler than I thought it would be” — Suinevere Pendragon
Turns out that other language localizations were seemingly planned as well, accessible via a hidden code, as pointed out by famed Saturn tinkerer tzmwx on SegaXtreme below.

Suinevere Pendragon was aware of this too.
“I found the language table originally but sadly the only two that will load are English and Japanese. 🙁 The other language binaries are missing from the disc.
I also checked Masters – Harukanaru Augusta 3 and Jun Classic C.C. & Rope Club, but neither have similar startup checks or additional language binaries.” — Suinevere Pendragon
Kitchen34, known for their work on a number of French language Saturn patches, added:
“Yes, there are indeed English files with an “E” in front, but unfortunately the others are not present, nor included in the game files. 🙂 But I tried it in English with the cheat, and it works pretty well”
As Suinevere Pendragon proudly pointed out in their announcement, it looks like we now have the “Pebble Beach 2 we never got in the West.”

Waialae no Kiseki: Extra 36 Holes — often localized as Miracle of Waialae — was T&E Soft’s third and final golf title for the Sega Saturn. The Saturn version of Waialae no Kiseki released exclusively in Japan in 1997 but did come to the West on the Nintendo 64 as Waialae Country Club: True Golf Classics the following year — not to be mistaken with functionally similar True Golf Classics: Waialae Country Club, also by T&E Soft, which released primarily on 16-bit consoles between 1991 and 1994. While not a true Saturn exclusive, this version includes cutscenes absent from other releases.
