Grandia #BestOfSaturn

When the world was young and all things were new, at the dawn of industrial age, there lived a boy named Justin. Brimming with exuberance and a zeal to explore, Justin goes on an adventure to uncover the mystery of the nearby Sult Ruins, only to get himself and his childhood friend Sue caught up in a struggle for the future of civilization itself.

Grandia is one of the premier JRPG experiences of the 32-bit generation, featuring fully 3D environments, a stunning soundtrack, a complex battle and experience system, and a story that blends grandiose moments with the essence of a simpler life. Players of the day anticipated this Saturn title to go head to head with the PlayStation’s Final Fantasy as Grandia took full advantage of the Saturn’s unique architecture… and while there were initially intentions to bring the title to the West, those plans were dashed, only for the game to be ported — and localized — on the PlayStation.

Hope was rekindled in 2020, as TrekkiesUnite118 found his Spirit Stone and used it to inject the English script into the Saturn code. With a playthrough that can take up to 100 hours to fully see everything on offer, Grandia is a Saturn game like no other.

Peter Malek

A Saturn fan since the beginning, Peter plays Saturn almost exclusively. For Peter, Saturn represents a moment in time where 2D games were at their best, 3D was just rising, and fascinating gaming 'firsts' were commonplace.  There are very few Saturn games that Peter cannot find some enjoyment in!
