Rainbow Cotton’s Getting an HD Remaster in 2024!

ININ Games, a German based game development company, recently announced that Rainbow Cotton is getting an HD Remaster coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in the Spring of 2024. With this release, every Cotton game should now be readily playable and easily accessible to a western audience!

For those of you unaware, Rainbow Cotton was originally was released on the SEGA Dreamcast in January of 2000. This game was pretty big departure from the original 2D side-scrollers of it’s previous iterations, instead using a third person over the shoulder view, similar to Panorama Cotton on the Genesis/MegaDrive, or perhaps more like a Star Fox or Panzer Dragoon game.

Some of the features being added to the Remaster include:

  • Full Localization of the cutscenes and menus
  • Graphical enhancements of elements in game
  • Enhanced controls, which include a snap-back and lock on-feature.
  • Retro Mode, which will allow you to play as close to the original game as possible.

Not much info beyond this has been revealed as of yet, but to my understanding, this seems more like a port, rather than putting it in an emulator and calling it good. We’ll just have to see once Rainbow Cotton Remaster releases in Spring of 2024.

If you’d like to try out a fan translated version until then, you can check out Derek Pascarella (AKA ateam) and team’s fan translation on the SEGA Dreamcast (Which we’ve previously covered before).
