The Saturn’s pins are very dense, so it doesn’t take much dirt to cause problems when compared to other consoles with less dense pins.

dense is putting it politely 😅
I’ve owned many Saturn’s from new and take extremely good care of my stuff yet they all have issues with the cartridge ports. Such a shame as the rest of the console is solid.Pretty much just like my Saturn. Original Japanese hardware but in this case I have two systems. One using the GDEMU while the other is an origin release with the heatpipes and Yamaha GDRom Drive. That one is used to play original discs.
Both systems run via VGA (via a non-lag HDMI converter) or RGB through the Retrotink x5 Pro.2026-05-10 at 14:17 in reply to: How do you play Sega Saturn currently? (Real hardware, fpga, emulation) #57299I see here that the Satiator is quite popular and I agree as it’s easily the best solution for keeping your Saturn stock but allowing for ISO play.
On many forums you see people raving about the Saoru (or whatever it’s called). I understand it’s cheap but the compatibility rate isn’t as good as other options plus it runs through the Saturn cartridge port, a port that it’s infamous for being unreliable. Why is that I wonder? Too many pins used to read the cartridge? The only Saturn fan game / home brew that really stands out to me is cube cat. It runs on such a high quality engine that it could be mistaken for a official game of the time.
In a way, Cube Cat reminds me of Ninpen Manmaru.2026-05-09 at 14:11 in reply to: How do you play Sega Saturn currently? (Real hardware, fpga, emulation) #57229For me, I’m using my trusty Hitachi-Hi Saturn. Looks brand new but in reality I’ve been using it over 30 years 😅.
The CD drive is starting to give out now so I play all Saturn games via the Satiator and only use discs when the game requires the MPEG card which comes with the Hi-Saturn.
I’ll never sell my games though. At one point I did have a complete Japanese Saturn set but sold about half (mostly the dating games and strange stuff) now I’m left with about 600+ Japanese Saturn games.
